Cats Of Gili

Animal welfare charity project helping the cats of the Gili Islands

Who We Are

We are one of the many green and environmental projects our parent foundation Gili Eco Trust is responsible for.

The Cats Of Gili project was officially launched in September 2013, and since then has been working hard to keep our island kitties happy and healthy.

About Us

Over the years, we’ve run multiple free vet clinics each year, where our amazing volunteer vets have spayed and neutered thousands of cats. Alongside this, we’ve cared for countless cats and kittens in need. And when tough times hit our islands - from the 2018 Lombok earthquakes to the tourism shutdown during COVID - Cats of Gili stepped up, making sure island cats stayed fed, safe, and cared for.

We take in cats and kittens who need help - no one is ever turned away. Sometimes that even includes the occasional chicken, duck, or goat! We love all animals. We are proudly a no-kill shelter, and as long as there’s hope, we’ll do everything we can to help.

Animal welfare is our purpose. While we rely on donations to survive, we are not a business - animals always come first.

Building trust within the local community has taken years. Through ongoing support, education, advice, and free cat food when needed, we work closely with local families to improve long-term care and wellbeing for pet cats.

Our MEOWQUARTERS in Gili Trawangan is home to most of our rescue cats and kittens, alongside our small charity shop selling cat-themed items, art, food, and essentials. Every purchase and donation helps fund our rescue work.

Cat rescue has been at the heart of what we do for over 10 years. Everything else simply supports that mission.

Our goal - since 2013 - is simple: healthier, happier cats across the Gili Islands. Because we love our island kitties. 🐾

Our every action supports the wellbeing of Gili’s cats
